Keeping all drivers safe, particularly our younger drivers on their learners and provisional licence is a goal that will continue to be striven for and worked on by the Government & here at Onroad. The Transport for NSW recently released, amendments to the ‘Graduated Licensing Scheme for learner, P1 and P2 licence holders’ (Transport for New South Wales, 2017). The aim behind this decision is to make drivers more prepared for driving on the road and for dealing with potential hazards therefore, ultimately decreasing fatalities.
As these changes will be taking affect from November 2017, we have put together FAQs to summarize the main items that you require to know below:
- I got my learners licence in November 2017; do I require doing the Hazard Perception Test?
If you attained your learner licence on or after November 20th of this year, you will need to sit the Hazard Perception Test to be able to drive unsupervised. Prior to November, the Hazard Perception Test was for P1 drivers to complete and progress to a P2 licence.
- I am on my P1 licence, am I required to do the Hazard Perception Test?
From November 20th of this year, P1 licence holders will not need to do the Hazard Perception Test in order to progress to their P2 licence.
- I am on my P2 licence, am I required to do the Driver Qualification Test?
From November 20th of this year, P2 licence holders will still need to do the Driver Qualification Test in order to progress to an unrestricted licence.
