Double Demerits this holiday season!

Christmas holidays are here and motorists are reminded to be vigilant and aware that Double Demerits will be in place from Thursday 24th of December 2020 and will conclude on Sunday 3rd of January 2021

The Demerit point system benefits drivers by helping them to obey road rules and improve driving behaviour; the offences police will be targeting during this period include: Speeding, riding without a helmet, and illegal use of Mobile phones.

Warning Signposts have recently been removed for both Mobile Phone Detection and Mobile Speed cameras. (Drivers caught using their phones during a double demerit period will be issued with a hefty $457 fine and a penalty of 10 demerit points.) (If a driver is caught exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h for example they will lose 14 demerit points which will lead to a loss of license. )

It is highly important to stay safe and take the following precautions during the holiday season. Remain cautious Pay attention to the road ahead Wear your seatbelt Slow down Follow the road rules Pull off the road if you are feeling fatigued ( tired drivers are dangerous drivers, it is important to stop every two hours.)

So enjoy this festive season, take care and most importantly stay safe, the safety of our driving community is our number one priority. Happy Holidays.
