Digital Licence Is On The Way !!!

Written by Ronak Shah

Digital licences are on the horizon for implementation in NSW and there is a lot of excitement and anticipation towards this new feature. Our Minister of Finance, Service, and Property Victor Dominello said that “Smartphones have become de facto wallets and we’re using cutting edge technology so that drivers can use a digital licence in everyday scenarios”. If this proposed legislation is passed, NSW residents can access, update, and renew their licence without needing to visit a service centre.
Our favourite benefits of this innovation are:

  1. You can compile all your cards on your phone, without the need for a wallet.
  2. No stress if you need your id or if you get pulled over without a hardcopy on you. This digital proof of identity can be used during a roadside Police check, as well as proof of age to gain entry into pubs and clubs.
  3. Using advanced technology and encrypted your information, you can be assured that your information is safe and there is little chance of fraud or licence theft.

Being the first digital driving licence of its kind, and currently only proposed to be implemented in NSW, physical plastic cards will still be issued and will be required when driving interstate and overseas
